Friday Newsletter – It’s a “Good” one

Every Friday I fire off a list of things I think you need to know. Want me to know something in return? Leave it in the comments.

Happy Good Friday everyone. Yes, it’s a holiday for many, but the newsletter rolls on. Also, should we start a petition to upgrade Good Friday, to Great Friday? Like I said, it’s a day off for many and in our house, that means no school and no work. Everyone is home. So what does that mean? Well, a lot of sleeping in and resetting for the weekend ahead.

Hopefully, Spring weather comes through and we will feel like being outside for much of the day. There is March Madness, the Blue Jays are back, and yes, getting reading for Easter dinner. What are you cooking?

It was a fast week, but a good week. Here are just some of the things that have me entertained or at the very least caught my eye.

TV Time – So what have I been watching on TV? Still can’t say enough about Shogun. The anticipation for “Crimson Sky” next week is high. As I have said, it’s the best show of 2024 so far. Excellent story telling and drama. Characters you care about. A time in history that is very interesting.

We also started Top Chef Wisconsin, Palm Royale and I am slowly moving through The Gentlemen.

Does anyone have thoughts on 3 Body Problems? I’m curious but not there yet.

For movies, I watched the remake of Road House and can report back that it was not great. But it’s somewhat enjoyable if you don’t focus too much on how this random dive bar in Florida can afford rent on such a large property. The original is still a better watch.

Food Fun – Over the last few weeks, there have been a few odd signs that every piece of media is listening to us. We recently booked a family adventure to Pittsburgh at the end of April and since then, the city that never popped on our radar is everywhere. Even this past week on Dinner Time Live, David Chang did an ode to Pittsburgh for one of the guests and it was his take on the famous Pittsburgh sandwich – The Primanti Sandwich. The classic sandwich includes two slices of Italian bread, grilled meat of choice, melted provolone, vinegar-based coleslaw, sliced tomatoes, and, of course, french fries. Katie and I at least need to split one now. Want to see it for yourself, check out episode 8 of Dinner Time Live on Netflix.

Baseball is back – The Toronto Blue Jays are back. How did that happen? It only seems like yesterday we were all losing our minds on how the season ended. What are your thoughts heading into the season? I am concerned with all the injuries they have already. The AL East is rough and a bad start could make it hard to catch up. But at least the Rogers Centre has been upgraded and everyone has cup holders now.

From the “X”

Complaint Corner – This is not news, but grocery prices are out of control. Thankfully where we live, we have a choice. The closest grocery store to us is Metro. I went there the other day for pasta sauce. For any sauce in a jar, the cheapest was $6.99. You have to go down to the bottom shelf for the canned stuff to see anything below $4. I left. I went across the road to FreshCo where the same spread had variety when it came to price. Jarred sauce for $4.99 which is more than what I expect. The same stuff with such a different cost. Who is shopping at Metro and thinking they are happy with what they pay? The staple items are now becoming so expensive and the items that are still affordable are shrinking. The same night of my pasta sauce purchase, the kids looked at the penne noodles and were like – what happened, they are so small. When kids are noticing…….
