Day 58: The Perfect Summer Day

pl-daily
The PL stands for Parental Leave, which I am currently doing for six months.

Summer started last Friday officially but today for me felt like the first day of summer. It was almost perfect. Short of my wife being home and not at work, it was one of those ideal days. The reason why? I got to go to the beach with my boys and have a great time. Not only did we hit the beach, we washed the car, went on a nature walk, relaxed in the basement and played in the backyard as the sun slowly went down. It could not have been scripted better. As I am almost half way into my 6-month leave from work, this was the day where I was like, oh yeah, this is what parental leave is all about.

Day 58, here is the rewind.

Who: Charlie

What a guy this Charlie is. He is so much fun for an almost 9-month old. He moves when you are not looking and eats A LOT of food. Today each time I went to get him from a nap, he is in the exact opposite direction I left him in and he was on his tummy. That is without a doubt his fave way to sleep. We also noticed that he has been grinding his teeth. Yep, he must have a few coming in on the top because it is hard to grind without them. He had a great time at the beach watching his brother play in the sand and then trying to eat the sand. We went out into the water for a bit and I felt like I was going to baptize him. Finally on our nature walk out behind our house,  he was getting excited at the baby ducks walking around him and was even trying to talk to them.

Where: Kearney Lake Beach

Kearney Lake Beach is perfect for us. It is close to home and it does not get that busy. The beach is small and half of it is actually in the shade. It was ideal today as we were the only ones there for most of the time. We took part in Harrison’s favourite new hobby. Building trenches. He did it yesterday at Dingle Park and today we built two huge trenches that diverted the water right down back into the lake.  It was a lot of fun and I got to be a kid again for an hour or so. I only wish I had the giant feet way back then, they were perfect for building the perfect trench. We also had a snack and saw many canoes. We will be going back here for sure.

Why: Washed the car

Harrison was up an hour early from his nap so we needed something fun to do while Charlie kept sleeping. So we washed our muddy car. I took care of the soap and Harrison took care of the rinsing. It looks shiny now sitting in the driveway. For some reason Harrison really wanted to wash the engine but I convinced him it was okay. That filled the time perfectly because just as we finished the baby monitor lit up with the sounds of Charlie.

What: Chicken dinner for all

This week Charlie is having his first meat, chicken. So it was fitting that we also had chicken for dinner tonight, but in strip form. We all sat on the deck on a perfect summer night eating chicken and talking about the day. Is there any better way to do it? Harry ate a lot, Charlie ate all of his and we enjoyed watching them laugh at each other as they do so often.
