10 TV shows to look forward to in 2025

As we dive into 2025, the year promises a stellar lineup of TV shows that will keep us glued to our screens. While everyone else is focused on New Year’s resolutions, incoming Presidents, and whatever the latest TikTok trend is, you can be sure I am pretty much focused on what new TV shows are coming. Isn’t that what you really want after a long day?

From returning fan favourites to highly anticipated new series, here are the 10 shows I’m most excited about this year.

1. The Righteous Gemstones (S4)

The dysfunctional and hilariously corrupt televangelist family is back for another season on HBO. Season 4 promises more outrageous schemes as the Gemstone siblings continue their power struggle within their megachurch empire. With Danny McBride, John Goodman, and Adam Devine reprising their roles, expect sharp satire and laugh-out-loud moments. The show has consistently delivered a perfect mix of comedy and drama, making it one of HBO’s most-watched comedies. I was pretty excited when I saw it on the list of 2025 shows that’s for sure. We all need as much Baby Billy as we can get.

2. Andor (S2)

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor in this gripping Star Wars prequel series on Disney+. Season 2 will delve deeper into the Rebel Alliance’s formation, leading up to the events of Rogue One. With its darker tone and complex characters, Andor has set itself apart from other Star Wars shows, and fans can expect more espionage, political intrigue, and emotional depth in 2025. How badly have I been waiting for the second season? I may have added it to my iPhone calendar. April can’t come fast enough.

3. The Bear (S4)

The culinary chaos continues in Chicago as Carmy and Sydney navigate the pressures of running a high-profile restaurant. Following the cliffhanger ending of Season 3, fans are eager to see how Carmy handles the fallout from his decisions. With its intense storytelling and brilliant performances, The Bear remains one of the most compelling dramas on TV. Was Season 3 a regression? Maybe. But I think once we watch Season 4, all the negative press will be forgotten. Trust the process as they say.

4. Mythic Quest (S4)

Apple TV+’s workplace comedy about a video game studio returns on January 29. This season will explore new challenges in game development while delving into the personal lives of its quirky characters. Rob McElhenney’s comedic genius ensures that Mythic Quest continues to be a delightful mix of humour and heart. With so few 25-minute comedies left, I am so happy this show continues. Although I believe it’s the final season, but don’t worry. There is a spin-off called Side Quest that I think comes out right when MQ concludes.

5. Zero Day

Robert De Niro makes his streaming debut in Netflix’s political thriller Zero Day. Set against the backdrop of a devastating cyberattack, De Niro plays a former U.S. president tasked with uncovering the truth while grappling with his own secrets. With its timely premise and star-studded cast, this limited series is shaping up to be a must-watch when it premieres on February 20. Honestly, you had me at Jesse Plemons.

6. American Primeval

Netflix’s gritty Western miniseries American Primeval drops on January 9. Starring Taylor Kitsch, this six-episode series explores the violent birth of the American West in 1857. Expect intense action, cultural clashes, and a raw depiction of survival in a lawless frontier. For fans of historical dramas with an edge, this one is not to be missed. I don’t usually go for the Westerns, but this trailer really grabbed me. Maybe I am just a sucker for Kitsch and his Texas Forever style. This one starts in a few days, so get ready.

7. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Yes, yes, another GOT show. I know. I get sucked in each time hoping it will be just like GOT. Set nearly a century before Game of Thrones, this HBO prequel follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire Egg—who later becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas, this series promises a lighter tone compared to its predecessor while still delivering epic storytelling in Westeros. Just like I said earlier about the process, I trust HBO and regardless of how the show is, it will be better than 80% of everything else.

8. The Last of Us (S2)

Doesn’t it feel like several years since Season 1 ended? HBO’s critically acclaimed adaptation of the beloved video game returns in April 2025. Following Joel and Ellie’s harrowing journey across a post-apocalyptic America, Season 2 will introduce new characters and expand on themes from The Last of Us Part II. With Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey reprising their roles, this season is set to be another emotional rollercoaster. The promo machine should be kicking off pretty soon.

9. Peacemaker (S2)

Here is another show that seems like it came out so long ago. One of the surprise hits for me in 2022. John Cena’s antihero Christopher Smith is back for more chaotic adventures in James Gunn’s DC Universe. Picking up after the events of Superman: Legacy (2025), Season 2 will explore new challenges for Peacemaker as he navigates his twisted sense of morality. Expect Gunn’s signature blend of irreverent humour and heartfelt character moments when it debuts later this year. I don’t even care about or follow the larger James Gunn universe, but I really enjoy the humour of Peacemaker.

10. The White Lotus (S3)

Mike White has teased that this will be a “supersized” season—longer, bigger, and crazier than its predecessors. With eight episodes airing weekly on HBO and Max, viewers can anticipate a rollercoaster of emotions, dark comedy, and jaw-dropping twists. As always, the show will spotlight the power dynamics between wealthy guests and resort staff while weaving in existential dilemmas unique to its Thai setting. With its ambitious themes and exotic locale, The White Lotus Season 3 is shaping up to be another unmissable chapter in this Emmy-winning anthology series. Mark your calendars for February 16.

What TV shows are you excited about?

From laugh-out-loud comedies to gripping dramas and everything in between, 2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year for TV lovers. The best part? There will be a handful of shows that we don’t even know about that will end up being huge hits. This time last year, we didn’t have any idea about Shogun, English Teacher, Presumed Innocent, or a long list of other great TV shows.

  1. Hey Mike, that’s a good list. We’re always looking for recommendations for a new series. I think you forgotto mention The Curse of Oak Island. This might be the year they find the treasure.

    • Hi Matt. Thanks for the comment. While I have seen the ads for it, I haver never watched The Curse of Oak Island. But I am always interested in a good treasure hunt.
