Chicken Thighs On The Big Green Egg

You can’t get a better ratio of price to taste than cooking up a batch of chicken thighs on the Big Green Egg. It seems our grocery store is always having a sale on chicken thighs and until I started smoking them, I was never a big fan.

But now, for a $5 pack of chicken thighs, I can turn it into a meal that would easily go for $20+ in a restaurant. (Fun 2024 update – wow, imagine if a pack of chicken thighs was still $5 for one pack.)

How do I do it? Well, it is all about the dry rub and the powers of the Big Green Egg.

Recipe: Beer Can Chicken On Big Green Egg

Big Green Egg

I did up a beer can chicken on the Big Green Egg today and wanted to share the recipe. Nothing like celebrating the first day of parental leave with a juicy chicken, slow cooked to perfection.

Original post was featured on The Big Green Cuz.

The recipe and cooking details

What you need

  • 1 chicken cleaned out. Can be anywhere from 10-15lbs. Cook a little longer the bigger the bird of course.
  • Your choice of rub. Today I used brown sugar, salt, onion salt and pepper.
  • Half a can of beer with a few garlic cloves tossed in. Drink the other half of course. Today I am using a pale ale.
  • 4 pieces of bacon added to the top of the bird once it is sitting on the can.
  • Aluminum tray or plate setter which is what I will use on the Big Green Eggs. You don’t want anything dripping in the charcoal.
  • Big Green Egg primed to sit at 375 F.
  • Cooking time 1.5-2 hours.

Cooking Like A Dad – Pulled Pork On The Big Green Egg

On New Year’s Day, I decided to kick off 2013 with a tasty pulled pork dinner. That meant one thing – The Big Green Egg was waking up from a winter’s sleep.

Since Jan. 1 is usually a pretty lazy day, it seemed perfect to be smoking some meat low and slow. The final result was tasty pulled pork and lots of leftovers.

Here is the recipe.
