Summer’s heating up—and so is this month’s TV lineup. When I was growing up, the summer meant reruns, but in the age of streaming, that’s not the case anymore. July 2025 brings us everything from gritty crime dramas (Dexter: Resurrection) to dreamy sci‑fi finales (The Sandman), serial‑killer slogs (The Institute), and cheeky comedies (South Park). You’re gonna want to clear your schedule—and maybe your patio too.

New Shows
The Wild Ones (July 11, Apple TV+) The six-part series follows an elite trio of wildlife experts as they embark on high-stakes expeditions across the globe to track and protect the planet’s most endangered species. The team traverses six countries — Malaysia, Mongolia, Armenia, Indonesia, Canada, and Gabon — deploying next-generation camera technology to capture rare and often first-ever footage of elusive species
Washington Black (July 23, Hulu) This mini-series follows the 19th century adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year-old boy on a Barbados sugar plantation who must flee after a gruesome death threatens to turn his life upside down.
The Institute (July 13, MGM) The plot centers around Luke Ellis whose parents are murdered in the middle of the night by intruders. Luke wakes up at The Institute in a room that looks just like his own, except there’s no window. Outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents, such as telekinesis and telepathy, who got there the same way Luke did. Sound creepy? Well, it’s based on a Stephen King novel.
Ballard (July 9, Amazon Prime) This series is the latest from the Bosch universe. It follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. It reads like the more flashy, American version of Dept. Q.
Welcome Back
Dexter Resurrection (July 11, USA) Okay, so this one is actually the first season, but it’s a character we all know so well. Weeks after taking a bullet to the chest from his own son, Dexter Morgan awakens from a coma to find Harrison gone. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia S17 (July 9, FX) While it’s impossible to predict exactly what’s next for the gang and Paddy’s Pub when It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia returns for season 17, it can be expected that the FX series will deliver plenty of misanthropic fun.
Foundation S3 (July 11, Apple TV+) There probably isn’t a show that I want to really like more. It’s eye and ear candy. It has a great cast, and it’s full-on science fiction to me. But I always fall off. That is why I am really going to try and watch Season 3. For those who have not heard of it, the series is an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s novels.
The Sandman S2b (July 24, Netflix) To be fully transparent, I have never watched the show. But I know a lot of people who have and really like it. So that’s why I am adding it here. You are welcome.
Keep An Eye On
South Park S27 (July 9, Comedy Central) For those who love the show, you already know a new season is back. This is more of a friendly alert for anyone who needs a laugh as the summer rolls forward.
Back to the Frontier (July 10, HBO Max) Why am I telling you about this show? Honestly I am not sure. It looks awful and really nails how low we have gone for content. BUT. I can see this show also being what people are talking about all summer. The premise is families will leave the 21st century behind to live as 1800s pioneers in this bold social experiment that will test their strength, stamina and sense of humour. The Trailer is ‘cringe’ as the kids say.
Happy Watching
That’s your July 2025 TV hit list—no movies, only prime screen time. Whether you’re into supernatural thrillers, teen melodrama, intergalactic voyages, or reality show scheming, this month’s got your binge fix covered. Got a hot tip I missed? Let me know, and I will check it out. Otherwise, happy watching—and remember to go outside and hydrate between episodes.
