Summer’s still sizzling—and August 2025 is bringing even more TV heat. Gone are the days of summer reruns, this month’s lineup is bursting with star-studded historical epics, sci-fi thrillers, courtroom face-offs, and even preschool superheroes. Start clearing your schedule (and maybe hoisting a chair on the patio).

Hot New Shows

Chief of War (Aug 1, Apple TV+) Jason Momoa returns—but this time in a 9‑episode epic exploring late-18th-century Hawaiʻi from a Polynesian perspective. With Hans Zimmer’s theme setting the tone, expect sweeping battles and cultural gravity. I have high hopes for this one since I really enjoyed an underrated See.

Eyes of Wakanda (Aug 27, Disney+) This animated Marvel spin‑off spotlights Wakanda’s elite military on vibranium-fueled missions. Eyes of Wakanda follows the Hatut Zaraze, Wakandan warriors who travel the world throughout history to retrieve dangerous vibranium artifacts.

Alien: Earth (Aug 12, FX/Hulu) Hulu’s sci‑fi horror ace Noah Hawley brings Xenomorphs to Earth in this highly anticipated franchise extension. When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, Wendy and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat. I am mostly excited to get some more Timothy Olyphant in my life.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood (Aug 8, Starz) A prequel exploring Claire & Jamie’s parents, steeped in the lush drama fans love. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a romantic saga that unfolds across time. From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, two fated couples must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.

Twelve (Aug 23, KBS2/Disney+) K‑drama with mythology-meets-action: Twelve modern-day warriors, each representing a zodiac sign, rise up to protect the Korean peninsula from ancient evil spirits threatening to destroy humanity. A battle of fate begin.

The Rainmaker (Aug 15, USA Network) I admit during the summer months, my standards for TV show drops. So of course, I am going to check out this series based on the very successful 1997 film, which is based on a John Grisham novel. The series follows a young lawyer who finds himself trapped by the dangerous firm he’s been hired by. Include dramatic music.

Welcome Back

King of the Hill S14 (Aug 4, Hulu) This classic animation takes another swing at suburban satire. After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas, to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill.

Platonic S2 (Aug 6, Apple TV+) One of my favourite adult friendship comedies returns with laughs, awkwardness, and all. Platonic former best friends approaching midlife reconnect after a long rift; the duo’s friendship becomes more consuming and destabilizes their lives.

Peacemaker S2 (Aug 21, Max) Peacemaker is a man who fights for peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. More ultra‑violence, more John Cena swagger. DC is relentless.

Keep An Eye On

Marvel’s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends (Aug 11, Disney Jr./Disney+) Blink‑182’s Mark Hoppus wrote the preschool theme? You heard that right. High‑tech heroics for little ones. Iron Man, Ironheart, and Iron Hulk work together in iron suits to solve problems and protect their city.

Hostage (Aug 21, Netflix UK) Julie Delpy and Suranne Jones star in this tense political thriller about a PM’s spouse abducted during an international summit.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Aug 27, Prime Video) Taylor Kitsch heads this spinoff—military thriller vibes dialled up. This is a prequel series to The Terminal List (2022), following Ben Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA operative. TL was one of my fave shows of 2022.

That’s your August 2025 binge guide—heavy on drama, sci‑fi, nostalgia, and laughs. Happy watching—and don’t forget to step outside once in a while.
