Hey Dads, What Are Your Dirty Little Secrets?

Yesterday on HRM Parent, I did a post listing off a few of the dirty little secrets I have kept to myself while being  a parent. You know, those little secrets you keep to yourself, whether they were done by accident or on purpose.

Like the following excerpt from the post:

1. Pretending to be sleeping when your kid comes in the room at 4am. Yes, I have done it. The boy comes in to our room in the middle of the night and I have pretended to be sleeping until my wife takes care of it. This also happened for both boys when they were babies.

The Boys Are Back In Daycare Town

Well it’s a new week and so far, so good. Yep, it’s not that old but already we are feeling good. Why?

Cause both kids went to school and both seem to be feeling much better than last week.

Charlie was home pretty much all week with a grab bag of stuff. Fever, cough, cold, etc. and Harrison was not feeling great either although he went to school each day.

It was a rough week on Katie especially because she was home with the sick boy and could not do what she normally does. All week, she kept wishing for a normal week soon.

Maybe it’s this week? We shall see.

My Son Hates Long Sleeved Shirts

Yes, this is true, it seems as though our 4-year old son hates long-sleeved shirts, sweaters or anything else that is not a t-shirt.

Normally, this would not be a big deal. But we have bought him a lot of nice shirts and sweaters that happen to have sleeves and we also live in Canada, so it is cold in January.

The solution on most days is to wear a long sleeve shirt with a t-shirt over it. So basically he is already dressing like some high school kid.

I usually get Harrison ready for school and it is quite the struggle each day to get him to wear something warm.

And when we do, the deal is that he gets to take off the warmer shirt as soon as he gets to warm.

As you would guess, that means as soon as he gets wherever we are going.

Kid vs. Dinner – The Battle Of All Battles

Every parent has, or will go through what we dealt with tonight. A kid who did not want to eat their dinner, but wanted all the perks of eating dinner. You know, dessert, getting to watch a TV show etc.

But at our table you need to eat some of your dinner to even have the conversation about dessert.

Tonight’s dinner was homemade broccoli soup. Now you might think, broccoli? Of course the kid won’t eat it. But Harrison actually eats broccoli, so it being in soup was not really the issue.

It seemed more like a battle to prove who was in control.

We Survived Blizzard 2014

Well the computer did not need to get dug out, but it feels like it has been awhile since I had time to sit and write. Probably due to the huge storm we had in Halifax on Friday. I was still cleaning off the driveway today.

On Friday we had a full-blown blizzard. 40 cm of snow, white out conditions and really, really cold temperatures for Halifax (-20 C).

It all made for a snow day with the kids. Friday we stayed inside. Saturday we went out briefly to shovel and get supplies and today, well today was nice. Warm air, melting snow and a chance for the kids to actually play.

The Pink Eye Of The Beholder

They liked to be called the pink eye brothers. You don’t want to mess with them.

If you have kids, odds are pretty high that you have had an outbreak of pink eye in your house. We are currently living that dream.

Both boys, different eyes and loads of fun when it comes to medicating them with drops.

Based on how Harrison acts when it is drops time, we were pulling out his lungs, shining them up and sticking them back in. Yes, he hates it.

Although, he has given in after a few days and as long as we follow his process, it does happen.

Charlie was ground zero when it came to our house. We are pretty sure he picked it up at daycare as everything and anything spreads like wildfire there.

I Think We Are All Ready For Christmas

No more trips to the store please. I think we now live in Bayers Lake (which is where all the stores are for those who don’t live here).

Today we went out for a few more things and I think we are done. The only trip left is one of the most important, the Christmas Eve run to the liquor store.

We need beer and wine to fully enjoy the week I think.

It was feeling like we would never get caught up. Last week I was definitely worrying about getting everything done. But short of wrapping gifts, I think we made it.
