Buying gifts for teen boys is hard. Like, really hard.
Ask one what he wants and you’ll get a shrug, an “I dunno,” or a link to something that costs more than your first car. Ask his parents and they’ll probably shrug too.
So most grandparents, aunts and uncles trying to figure out what to buy a teenage boy end up doing the same thing. Gift card. Cash. Done. And look, nobody has ever been mad about money. But it’s not much fun to give, and it’s even less fun to watch someone open.
I have two teenage boys, so I figured I’d put them to work.
I put together a list of 50 gift ideas. Headphones, gaming stuff, sports gear, things to get them outside, and a few things to help with the smell. Then I made my boys go through every single one and give it a yes or a no. Their verdict is under each item. H and C are my two boys.
This is for anyone with a teen boy on their list and no clue what he’s into. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends and, honestly, some parents too.
But before I begin, I should say that teenagers change their minds constantly. A yes today could be cringe by Christmas.

Top Picks
These are the 10 I’d start with. My boys don’t agree with me on all of them, so check their verdicts.
1. Beats Solo 4

Headphones are on almost every teenager’s head, and these are the ones he’ll notice. Good sound, a battery that lasts, and they look the part. Maybe a little pricey, but it would quickly move you up the ranks.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
2. Reflex Ball with App

A boxing reflex ball that builds reaction time and hand speed. It’s hard at first, which is the fun part, and then the whole house starts competing. Just like a punch, your teen won’t see it coming.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👍
3. Anjank Extra Loud Alarm and Bed Vibrator

For the teenager who sleeps through everything. It’s loud, it shakes the bed, and it gets someone else out of the wake-up business. The fact that they need to read or say the word vibrator is a bonus level of awkward that every teen tries to avoid.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
4. Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set

D&D is apparently back with teenagers in 2026. The starter set has everything a group of friends needs to start playing the same night, and it gets them around a table instead of a screen. My teens are not into it, but it doesn’t mean yours won’t be.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
5. 5 Ingredients Bro Cookbook

Simple meals with five ingredients or fewer. A teenage boy is always hungry, so he might as well learn to feed himself. This seems like a long-shot type of gift to me when I feel like they will just grab a bag of chips instead.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
6. 3-in-1 Charging Station

Every teenager is fighting a dead phone. This charges his phone, earbuds, and watch from one spot, on the nightstand or in a backpack. Or on the floor, which in our household is the nightstand.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👍
7. First to Worst Party Game

A quick, easy party game for when his friends are over. Good for getting a group off their phones for an hour. We enjoy a new game every so often so that’s why there are two thumbs up here.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
8. Audio Shower Speaker

He’s going to play music in the shower anyway. This sticks to the wall, it’s waterproof, and it might keep him in there long enough to actually get clean. Scratch that. I don’t really want them taking even longer showers. But it’s still a decent gift.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
9. Slick Gorilla Hair Styling Powder

Teen boys care about their hair more than they let on. This gives the messy, textured look that’s all over TikTok, and it holds all day. It’s even better than if they don’t wash their hair for four days straight.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
10. Portable Table Tennis Set

Clamps onto almost any table and turns it into a ping pong table. Kitchen, cottage, hotel room, wherever there’s a table and a bored teenager. This is a good one if you can also leave the house after you give it to them.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👍
For Athletes
If he plays a sport, this is the easiest section on the list. Athletes go through gear, water, and sore muscles all season, and most of this stuff gets used every week. Don’t forget the sweats and joggers either. Teen boys live in them.
11. Nike Brasilia Large Training Duffel

Hockey bag, gym bag, tournament bag. Every athlete needs a big bag, and this one holds everything. The key is to make sure nothing gross ends up living in there.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
12. Under Armour 64 oz Water Jug

A half-gallon (about 1.9 L) insulated jug that hooks onto the fence. For the kid who drains a regular water bottle by the second period. My boys have never met a water bottle they did not love right away.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
13. 321 Strong Foam Roller

Cheap and simple. Sore legs after a game are a lot easier to handle with one of these. In theory I can see this being used. But more likely it just gets kicked every time you go in their room.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
14. Mini Massage Gun

A pocket-sized massage gun for sore muscles after a game or a workout. Recovery gear without spending a few hundred dollars on a full-size one. Our family has one of these and trust me, it gets used A LOT. This is a home run of a gift for sure.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
15. WHOOP One 12-Month Membership

A screenless band that tracks sleep, training and recovery. For the serious athlete who wants numbers on everything. Cool gift from the extended family for sure, but I would not rank it too high on the list. The parents see it as one more subscription we forget we pay for.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
16. Adjustable Weight Bench

Once teen boys discover the gym, they don’t stop talking about it. This folding bench gives him somewhere to lift at home and tucks away when he’s done. If you have the space, it’s a great gift. It also does a great job of holding laundry.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👎
17. Bose SoundSport Earbuds (Renewed)

Wireless earbuds built for sweat. Renewed means Bose quality for a lot less. If you are wondering why there are more headphones on the list, it’s cause teen boys love headphones.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
18. The Everyday Athlete Cookbook

165 recipes for energy and recovery. Good for the athlete who’s started asking how much protein is in everything. I know they have all this information on their phones, but it makes you feel good giving them a book like it’s in olden times.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
19. Trust the Grind

A book about how world-class athletes got to the top, written for ages 15 to 17. A good one for the kid who’s serious about his sport. While I am pro book, this one is a few years old, and your teen may not know some of the athletes in it. So keep that in mind.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
For Gamers
If he games, you’ve probably heard him talking to his friends through a headset in a language you don’t understand. Gaming gear gets expensive fast, which makes it a great place for a gift he can’t easily buy himself. One rule before you buy anything: find out if he plays on PlayStation, Xbox or PC.
20. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

The big one. The digital version skips the disc drive, and every game gets downloaded. Yep, this one is the grand salami of them all and probably not what you are buying the teen in your life unless you are his parents. But hey, it’s what they want. So that’s why it’s on the list. Also, because it doesn’t have a disc drive, don’t make the rookie mistake and buy them a physical game to go with.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
21. Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition

See above for the reasons. If he’s an Xbox kid, this is the top of the line. It plays in 4K and runs thousands of older Xbox games. It’s slightly less cool than the PS5, but if it’s a gift, they are not going to care. The price is a bit crazy.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
22. Logitech G733 Wireless Gaming Headset (Renewed)

Wireless means he can get up from the desk without tearing the headset off his head. Light, comfortable, and his friends will hear him clearly. Maybe too clearly. In my experience, it’s hard to find good gaming headsets that are wireless. So these may do the trick for when he has to go to the bathroom and doesn’t want to miss out on the action.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
23. Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core (Renewed)

The controller serious Xbox players want. It’s the kind of upgrade a teenager will drool over but never buy for himself.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
24. Couchmaster CYCON Lap Desk

Lets him play PC games from the couch or bed with a full keyboard and mouse. Whether that’s a good thing is between you and his parents. This, in theory, is a good idea. But I think teens may wonder why it’s needed.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
25. Frigidaire Gaming Mini Fridge

A light-up mini fridge for drinks beside his setup. He’ll love it. His parents may have mixed feelings. My teens love and dream of a mini fridge. Because the actual fridge is always so far away.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
26. KAFRI RGB Headphone Stand with USB Charger

A stand for his gaming headset that lights up and has three USB ports and two outlets built in. His headset gets somewhere to live besides the floor, and his phone charges right next to it. If you are on the fence about this one, just make sure there is actual space on his desk, otherwise it may never leave the box.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👍
For the Outdoors
If it feels like he’s on a screen from the minute he wakes up, here’s a nudge outside. Most of these work best with a few friends, which is half the point.
27. Spikeball Original Game Set

Spikeball is huge with teenagers. It comes with the net, three balls and a bag to haul it to the park or the beach. This is a hit in our house. I would highly recommend picking this one up if you want to be the cool uncle.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
28. Leatherman Surge

Every guy should own a good multi-tool, and this is a great first one. It’ll be in his glovebox for the next 20 years. This one screams practical gift from Grandpa. They won’t touch it now, but in a few years they will be rummaging through their box of junk wondering where it is.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👍
29. Onewheel Pint X

The real big-ticket item on this list. An electric board that goes about 32 km/h with a range of 19 to 29 km. Throw in a helmet. This one really leans into a gift that your teen boy would want, but I am not so sure it’s the best idea. But hey, I want to be proven wrong. At the very least, you will get an OMG out of their mouths.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
30. Hicober Pickleball Paddle Set

Pickleball isn’t just for retirees anymore. Two paddles and six balls, and he’s got something to play with his friends, or his grandparents. This one is a stretch, but I added it anyways. Tennis is more likely. Unless you have a court in your backyard where the world can’t see them playing a game for old people, I would pick something else.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
31. ZenMonkey Slackline Kit

A 60-foot slackline that sets up between two trees. Harder than it looks, which is why it’s fun. If your teen has an actual backyard, or the family has a cottage with a lot of trees, then this one should be considered. Just setting it up will make them use their brains before the fun even starts. We live in the city, so don’t let the review below sway you too much.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
32. Kan Jam

A frisbee and two cans. It’s a staple at cottages, beaches and tailgates for a reason. This is an easy win for extended family. Plus it’s a game the whole family can play, until the teens get bored.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
33. Loowoko 50L Hiking Backpack

For the kid who’s getting into camping or hiking. Waterproof, with room for a full weekend. Plus backpacks come in super handy when they go on any other type of trip and they need something super durable and easy to haul around.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
34. Intex Excursion Pro K2 Inflatable Kayak

A two-person kayak that packs into the trunk. Perfect for cottage country. Now this gift is not something I would ever be looking at because the closest body of water to us is Lake Ontario. Again, if you have a cottage in the family, or you do a lot of camping, this is sure to make the teen boy want to actually travel with you for a few more years.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
Gadgets
Tech is always a safe bet with teenagers. Some of these are fun, and some are the practical stuff he’ll use every day without thinking about it.
35. GoPro HERO12 Kit

For the kid who films everything. It’s waterproof, shoots 5.3K, and this bundle comes with mounts, extra batteries and a memory card, so there’s nothing else to buy. This is sure to be a hit. It’s a piece of gear they are never going to ask for or buy for themselves and it will provide so many awesome videos.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
36. Anker 20,100 mAh Power Bank

Charges his phone several times over. No more “my phone died” as the reason he didn’t text back. The only challenge is that they need to keep the power bank charged and they need to remember to bring it with them. This is a lot for the teen boy to remember. Still, a very cool gadget to give them.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
37. Foldable 1080p Camera Drone

A beginner drone with a camera and gesture controls. One heads-up: in Canada, any drone over 250 g has to be registered with Transport Canada, so check the weight first. I think drones are a lot of fun, but as a gift, it’s getting into “do your research” first territory. Also, as much fun as they look, to me they are not toys and should be treated very seriously. But, they are still a very cool gift. My teens would be out in the yard within 20 minutes of opening it.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
38. TRAVANDO AirTag Wallet

A slim wallet with a slot for an AirTag, for the teenager who loses his wallet. The AirTag is sold separately. Practical, cool, and serves a purpose. Great gift when you have no idea.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
39. LISEN Fast Car Charger

Perfect for a new driver. It charges his phone and laptop at the same time, so he has no excuse for a dead phone. I am not so sure this is needed in 2026. A USB port also charges your phone while you drive. I think one less thing to play with is best when you are dealing with a teen driver. But if your family is into cars. Could work.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
For Music Lovers
If he always has earbuds in, start here. There’s something for the kid who listens, the kid who plays, and the kid who just discovered vinyl.
40. Victrola Journey Record Player

Vinyl is back with teenagers. This suitcase player has built-in speakers and Bluetooth, so it works right out of the box. As physical media makes a comeback, this is a gift that the parents can take advantage of as well. It also brings back going to the record store as an activity to do together.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
41. Bose SoundLink Micro

A small waterproof speaker that clips onto a bag or a bike. Goes to the beach, the park and the shower. Any type of portable speaker is an easy gift for a teen. I bet they already have one. But the more the merrier.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
42. Fender CD-60S Acoustic Guitar Bundle

If he’s been talking about learning guitar, this is everything he needs: a solid acoustic, hard case, tuner, strap, strings and picks. Any type of instrument is a great gift idea, especially if it is something you also know how to play. Then it’s a shared activity.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
43. LEGO Ideas Fender Stratocaster

A 1,074-piece LEGO version of a Fender Strat. For the kid who loves guitars and hasn’t quite given up LEGO. Like a few of the other items on this list, before you spend that type of money, check to see if they have somewhere to keep it once it’s built. In our house, it’s the one drawback of larger LEGO projects.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
Just for Fun
These don’t fit anywhere else, but they’re the gifts that come out when his friends are over.
44. Joking Hazard

A card game where players build comic strips, from the people behind Cyanide & Happiness. The box calls it inappropriate, and the box is right. Know your audience.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
45. LEGO Technic McLaren Senna GTR

A detailed build of a McLaren race car. A great project for a long weekend, or the week between Christmas and New Year’s. We have this one. It’s very cool to build and have on display. Very few teen boys would pass up having their hands on this cool car.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
Personal Care
At some point, most teenage boys start caring about how they look and smell. It might not have happened yet. These can help it along, and nobody in the house will complain. In our house, Sephora is a popular store if you don’t know what to get them. But for those looking to buy an actual gift, here you go.
46. Philips Norelco OneBlade 360

Trims, edges and shaves. A good first shaver for when the peach fuzz has to go. I am very jealous of the first-time razors teens have in 2026. I was very afraid to cut myself every single time.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
47. Dr. Squatch Bar Soap Five-Pack

Teen boys love this stuff. Five bars of natural soap in different scents, and it might actually get him in the shower. You are going to notice a trend. My teens love anything that is self-care.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
48. Nautica Voyage

A fresh, easy cologne that’s been around for years. A safe first bottle, and a lot better than a whole can of body spray. While I think this would be a hit with many teen boys, we’ve learned they prefer to choose their own scent. So as long as you don’t mind that this sits on their dresser for years before they come around to it, I say give it a go.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👎C👎
49. Mighty Patch

Pimple patches that are hard to see once they’re on. He won’t ask for these, but he’ll use them. I 100% know my teens want these. I am not sure they want them as gifts. But in terms of will they use them? I am almost sure of it. Again, much different from my day when the last thing you wanted to do was feature that you had a zit. Times they are a changing.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
50. Hanging Toiletry Bag

A dopp kit that hangs on a hook. Useful for tournaments and trips now, and residence later. I don’t know if teens will see this as a cool gift. But every teen boy needs one sooner or later. They can’t always just borrow Dad’s.
My Teen’s Verdict: H👍C👍
So that’s the list. Fifty ideas, and two teenagers with opinions on every single one.
Hopefully this makes buying for the teen boy on your list a little easier. At the very least, you’ve got more to go on than a shrug.
If you’re still stuck, the gift card isn’t going anywhere. It’s not exciting, but he’ll use it.
And if his thank-you text comes back in a language you don’t recognize, I wrote a guide to teen slang that might help. Assuming he sends one.
Do you think I missed something, or want to add your product to my gift guide? Let me know in the comments.
