Tennis’s Top 5 Worst Dads

When I first clicked on the link from The Herald Sun, I was sure the dad of Venus and Serena Williams would be the worst. But I was so wrong. He is just a loud-mouthed jerk.

These five tennis dads are actually bad people who were involved in illegal actions and took advantage of their talented tennis kids.

No father of the year award here.

Day 24: Somebody Get Me Jack Bauer

No, no, I don’t actually need Jack Bauer to save the day for me, I just think of him anytime I see the number 24.

Today was a Friday, so that meant, end of the week, time to regroup and welcome mom back to the fold.

This day was even better because she got the afternoon off. Huzzah. More mom time for Charlie. Harry was at preschool.

That meant a pretty quiet afternoon for this day. My wife and Charlie had long afternoon naps and I caught up on House of Cards. We watched the first four episodes so long ago, I needed a refresher before moving forward.

This evening, my wife got two tickets to the Halifax Mooseheads playoff game through work. So she took Harry. Right now they are sitting in the Chronicle Herald box and I  am at home with Charlie. He is off to sleep and I am going to have a lazy Friday night.

So on this Friday, very little to report from the parenting side of things.

Reminder To Dad: My Son Is Only Three

Originally posted on The Dads Round Table.

Over the last few days, our three-year old son has become more and more angry, upset and not like himself. His happy face crumbles in seconds over the smallest thing. His usual chipper attitude vanishes before our eyes. He is not right.

That leads my wife and I to conversations on what it could be?

Would it be something at home?

Did something upset him at preschool?

Is he is sad that he can’t watch Game of Thrones?

Okay, so that last one is just me trying to put a smile on this new situation in our house. We have not had to deal with this yet in our parenting lives.

But, after discussing it and thinking about it and putting it all together, the thing I realized was I had to step back and remind myself, that our son is only three.

Day 23: Tired Baby Boy Leads To Productive Day

Two status posts in one day? What gives? Well, I have a lot more energy than I did last night at this time.

Why? Well for whatever reason, the baby boy was pretty cranky and tired today. He put in some serious doze time. With Harry at preschool, that left me to have a lot of time to myself.

Time to catch up on the house, time to read and of course, time to catch up on my blogs.

I am not sure if it is a growth spurt, more teeth coming or just a general boredom with me, but Charlie was sleeping today like a 30-year old with a hangover (not that I am comparing it to myself).

He has almost a 2-hour morning nap and a 3.5 hour afternoon nap. Then he went to bed 15 minutes early and was out like a light.

Hey, I am not complaining.

Day 22: The Return Of Sophie

Well this post is a little delayed thanks to this day getting a case of the tired Wednesday’s. Yes, I am aware it is now Thursday, but such is life. At least I am making the effort to keep the streak going.

So Day 22. It was one of the more tiring days of the whole adventure (so far). To avoid tiring you out from reading it, I am going to switch to the classic bullet form.

Here goes Wednesday:

  • Every one of Charlie’s diapers on this day, was a pooper.
  • Still annoyed at my tax reassessment from day earlier.
  • I took two tired and cranky boys to the Passport office.
  • I drove part of the way home without Charlie buckled in his seat.
  • It was borderline summer out and the hose was not working right.
  • Once hose was working, Harry watered the neighbourhood and the car a little.
  • Finally found a box in the garage that was missing for months (read below for more).
  • Changed the porch light.
  • Made nachos for dinner.
  • Went up and down the stairs five times during Harry going to bed. Best excuse – “a hair fell on the floor and I wanted to tell you.”
  • Watched Survivor and Modern Family.
  • Fell asleep on couch.

Those were just the highlights.

Dads That Are Owning That Parenting Thing

Buzzfeed recently posted a list called “24 people who are really nailing this parenting thing“, and many of the photos were of dads.

Since at Like A Dad, we love showing off those doing parenting like a dad, we grabbed a few of the images to show you here.

Of course we want you to go and check out the full list because Buzzfeed kills it when they put a list together.

Here are just a few of our faves.

Day 21: Angry Birds, Angry Birds, Angry Charlie

angrybirds3

Good evening, I welcome you to your normally scheduled blog post. Day 21. The day I almost did the whole day from dawn til dusk. My wife thankfully made it home just in time to catch Harry before bed and now they are up doing bedtime.

But other than that, it was dad all day long today. My wife was up earlier than the birds for a work event and that meant I had to take care of her part of the morning. No biggie, it was just breakfast and getting Harry to school.

The worry was, he had a rough drop off on Monday, so we were interested to see how his mood was today. He was fine. Why?

Angry Birds.

The toys we got in the mail yesterday were still fresh in his head. Even to the point where the first thing he said when he got up today was, can we play with the Angry Birds?

Angry Birds Star Wars Review

Do you play Angry Birds? I bet you do even if you don’t want to admit it. The simple game that we all have on our phone is taking over the world, one exploding bird at a time.

So it is with no surprise that the Angry Bird people decided to merge with one of the biggest toy franchises ever – Star Wars, to make an unstoppable force known as Angry Birds Star Wars.

As a dad blogger, I have been given the chance to review some toys and other products from Hasbro. It is very exciting and to be honest, I could not be cooler in the eyes of our three-year old son.

Yesterday the UPS truck pulled up and basically shut down our house. We had to open that box right away. I knew what it was, but my son did not. He looked like it was Christmas all over again.

Inside were three items, all from Hasbro and all Angry Birds Star Wars related.
