What TV shows I am watching right now

Happy day after Family Day. It’s back to the normal grind for most after a long weekend of family activities, the usual weekend stuff, and catching up on TV shows.

While things were looking pretty empty for a few weeks, the TV show library is starting to pick up the pace again.

The streamers are starting to release new shows on the regular after the various strikes from last year slowed everything down.

Here’s what I have been watching in 2024 so far.

True Dectective: Night Country (Crave)

The latest installment in the True Detective series. The last episode just aired. If you enjoy creepy detective shows and a lot of darkness, you should check it out.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Amazon)

When I first heard about this show I really had no interest. This was because I thought it was just a remake of the movie. It’s not. The show is very good so far and has a really cool vibe to it. It’s kind of like a modern version of The Americans but on a smaller scale.

Dinner time live (Netflix)

We enjoy cooking shows in our house. This live cooking show with David Chang and guests is a regular watch for us. I thought an hour long show of just cooking and hanging out would drag, but so far each episode has been enjoyable. It’s fun to see a world class chef also screw up recipes because he’s trying to do to much and have conversation at the same time.

Fargo (Disney +)

We just finished the 5th season a few weeks ago. It’s pretty dark and hard to imagine it’s a true story. Juno Temple, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jon Hamm are the stand out performers of this one. But I will always remember Dave Foley and his eye patch.

Abbott Elementary (ABC)

One of the only new sit-com still having success is back for another season. The gang at Abbott provides humour, postiive stories and an all around good-feeling show in a sea of darkness. If you have never watched, there are dozens of episodes to binge and enjoy.

Masters of the Air (Apple)

Probably the show I was looking forward to the most this year. The follow up installment to Band of Brothers and The Pacific. While I don’t think it is living up to the two series ahead of it, Masters of the Air is still worth a watch just for the battle scenes. I might have a bigger review of this show later in the year after the finale.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (Crave)

I could watch Larry all the time. So of course I am happy Curb is back for it’s last season. Looking forward to just how far it goes before it is over.

Seinfeld (Netflix)

Yes I have been watching the odd episode of Seinfeld again. I think Curb being back made me just want more Larry/George. I wonder if Seinfeld will ever peter out. The newer generations seemed to have latched on. It’s also a reminder that while Jerry, George and Kramer seemed to get a lot of the hype, it’s actually Elaine who was propping that show up on many occasions.

Loudermilk (Netflix)

A random show that I watched basically because Netflix told me to. It came up and I recognized the guy from Office Space and gave it a go. It’s not bad. It has some laughs. It’s a good 23 minute show to watch a few at a time. Nothing heavy at all.

Peaky Blinders (Netflix)

This is show I always knew was there but never watched it. People kept saying you had to watch it. I thought it was about horse racing. Honestly, what finally pulled me in was seeing this clip:

I am still making my way through the show, but it’s pretty great. If only someone had just said, it’s the UK version of Boardwalk Empire, I would have watched so long ago.

What are you watching? What can you recommend for me?
