Like A Dad Remembers: Transformers – More Than Meets The Eye

Thank you Netflix. Thank you for offering the original Transformers. Today my son and I started watching the classic 1984 Transformers cartoon that I watched when I was a wee lad.

There  is nothing better for a dad than watching old cartoons with your kid. The best part, he is hooked. What little boy does not like cars and jets that transform into robots. The team that came up with them sure were on the ball. Even before Michael Bay brought them back, the Autobots and Decepticons were doing okay at the bank.

But as I watch Transformers almost 30 years later, there are a lot of questions that come to mind that did not when I was a kid.

First, if the Decepticons can already fly, why do they need to be jets?

Did Soundwave actually invent autotuning?

Was Starscream gay?

So many new questions and no real answers.

Now, we have only watch episode one, but it sure is ironic that the whole story is based around who can suck the most resources out of the earth. Who knew, the Transformers were actually predicting the future of our planet.

Also, Megatron, he is easily a Metrosexual. Not quite super gay but I bet he would not turn down the offer.

Netflix also added GI Joe. All the above observations can also be added to that cartoon. The only difference, more ladies.

Over the Christmas break, I am sure the boy and I will get into that one as well. Destro, Cobra Commander and the whole gang.

Reliving my childhood with my kid and for only 8 bucks a month. Sweet.

What cartoon would you like to share with your kids? We would love to hear it.

Tranformers, GI Joe and Superfriends for me.
