Happy Canada Day! As a proud Canadian I will be out celebrating the day with my family and not sitting at the computer. Don’t worry, I planned ahead.

I asked the Dad bloggers of the world what they thought of when they heard the word “Canada”, and surprisingly I got a lot of great answers. I was expecting the usual ones like bacon, cops on horses and everyone says eh.

First week of summer brought a few hot days but mostly rainy days. That meant a lot of indoor shots. Oh well, many weeks of great weather ahead.

This Dad Reflects On His Birthday

So today is my birthday. I am not adding this to a post to get more Facebook wishes or happy birthday tweets. No, I just find that on the anniversary of the day you were born, it the best day to reflect on where you have been.

I am not ashamed to say it, I am 30. I mean, 35? No, okay fine, I turn 39 today.

I am a 39-year guy living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who currently is not working. If I went back to 20-year old me and explained in 19 years that would be the situation, I would have told myself I was crazy.

I grew up thinking life would be more cookie cutter. I would be married and have kids by 25. Have a great job and making a lot of money by 35 and have a big old house to hold everything.

Life is not cookie cutter of course.

This Dad Had An Excellent Father’s Day

It is a sunny Monday afternoon, the boys are both sleeping and I have a moment to look back at the best Father’s Day I have ever had.

My wife and boys did a great job celebrating dad yesterday and I can’t wait for many more to come.

A lot of other dads I know were more interested in having a day to themselves. A day to go golfing, fishing or just out on their own. I get that. I like the idea of that. But at this point in my life, I just want to be around my family and spend time together. That is what we did.

First off, I got to sleep in. Sunday is my day to sleep in anyways, so it worked out. Funny thing was, I did not sleep. I was awake when everyone else got up. But I stayed in bed and read a book. What a nice treat.

Once I was up, I had a cup of tea and just let the day come at me.
