Harrison`s First Live Basketball Game

One of Harrison`s Christmas presents was tickets to go and see a Halifax Rainmen game. We have been to see the Halifax Mooseheads a few times, but never to a Rainmen game.

Harrison loves basketball and watches it on TV whenever I am watching it. He is even starting to get the rules of the game. For some reason, he loves it when the ball gets stolen. Anyways.

Sunday was being referred to as “no nap day“ because the game was at 2pm, which is usually when the boys nap.

I was looking forward to the game as well because live basketball (no matter the level) is always a treat. I have been a hoops fan for most of my life, so I would never say no to going to a game.

The exciting part was our seats were on the floor right behind the basket.

So we bundled up and headed down  to the Metro Centre where the Rainmen play.

Hasbro’s Transformers Construct-Bots Review

I grew up loving Transformers. Yes, they were around long before Michael Bay got his hands on them. The cartoons, the toys, the iconic transforming sound. Loved it all.

So it is the best feeling when I get to watch my boys build their own love for the toys as the grow. Sure a few things have changed and the modern versions of the toys are much more slick and fancy, but they are still transformers.

One of the modern views of the transformers are the Construct-Bots.

Recently I was sent a few by the good folks at Hasbro. The plan was to build them with my son and then name it and post it to the web.

Well, parenting got in the way and I just got around to opening the box today.

Thanks dad, jeez. Anyways. Harrison does not even know they are in the house.

White Point Beach Resort – Ideal For Vacationing With Kids

harry-whitepoint

Have you heard of White Point Beach Resort? If you live in Nova Scotia, you sure have. It is a treasure that is a must for everyone to visit one day.

The resort is a beautiful place located on the south shore of Nova Scotia, right on the Atlantic Ocean.

It is the perfect place for weddings, company events, beach outings and of course vacations.

But what about if you are vacationing with kids?

No problem, it is the perfect place to go for both the parents and the kids.

We ended the summer of 2013 there over the long weekend and had a blast. The rebuilt main lodge was amazing, the staff was top-notch and our accommodations were unbelievable.

Off To The Movies With Dad – Planes

planes1

This weekend, I got to do something very cool. I got to take our 3-year old son to see his first movie theatre, big screen, big popcorn, holy crap this is an awesome movie.

We went to see Planes.

Ever since I showed him the movie trailer a few weeks ago, his life has been all about planes.

Building planes with Lego, reading books about planes and even pretending to be a plane.

The movie was a can’t miss.

10 Of The Best Playgrounds Halifax Has To Offer

playground1

When you have children of any age, one important list you need in your head is where the best local playgrounds are. Playgrounds are a staple for any parent because they give you a chance to get outside and of course, tire out your kids.

We live in Clayton Park in Halifax. There are numerous little playgrounds within walking distance to our house. They are ideal because they are usually empty which gives our boys free run of the place.

But a few swings and a slide just don’t cut it all the time.

So, when we have access to the car, we do our best to venture out into the city to go to some of the biggest and best playgrounds in Halifax and surrounding areas. We also like to go on adventures and find new playgrounds to enjoy.

Of course, having a parenting blog that focuses on Halifax, I decided it was time to start unloading the big list in my head and share it with the other parents who may not know about such wonderful places to play.

Before I list of these playgrounds, I want to add, that these are our 10 favourites. So if I leave one off the list, that is only because we have either not been there yet, or our kids did not like it when we went.

This is also a chance for those living in HRM to help compile a master list in the comments. The goal here is to make the best resource possible for parents to access when looking for a playground.

So here goes.

Start Saving For College Now Using Instagrad

instagrad

Our boys are decades away from college but we already have an account set up at our bank for their post-secondary education one day. I think it is something you should do as a parent if you can. Personally, I had to food the bill on my education, so I want to try to help out where I can when Harry and Charlie reach that age.

Another cool way to start saving now is Instagrad.

Iron Man 3 Toys Bring All The Kids To Yard

ironman1

Well this has been a post in the making for three weeks. Why? Well we can thank FedEx but let’s not focus on the negative.

The fine folks at Hasbro let the Like A Dad family choose three cool new toys to try out based on the latest release of the Iron Man movie chain.

Now, I saw the movie last week, so it is almost ideal that the toys came after the fact.

I also wish there was a way to put into words how over the moon our 3-year old son is with the toys. He loves, loves, loves them.

As for what our 7-month old thinks? Well the flashing lights were interesting for a minute but as soon as he figured out the toys were not edible, he did not care.

So what did Hasbro send up our way?

The three toys that Harrison picked out were:

Review: Hasbro’s KRE-O Star Trek Line Beams Me Up

The latest blockbuster movie to hit the big screen is Star Trek Into Darkness and with any movie of that size, you know there will be cool toys for the dads, I mean kids.

Hasbro has been kind enough to send us three toys from their  new KRE-O Star Trek line. The exciting new group of toys includes KRE-O building sets and KREON figures based on J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek franchise.

The package that came in the mail was pretty big, so the excitement shot through the house pretty fast. And that was just me. My boys are not old enough to play with this kind of lego, so it worked out that they are away with their mother. That will give me time to build each ship before they get home.

The three that were sent to me were:
