May in Toronto means longer days, patio season is starting, and the first real taste of summer, but let’s be honest, it’s also prime time for catching up on TV once the kids are in bed and the BBQ is cooling down. Whether you’re winding down after a lakeside walk, escaping a surprise spring downpour, or just looking for something new to binge, this month’s lineup of TV premieres is stacked. From returning favourites to buzzworthy new series, here’s what you may want to watch in May 2025.

Anticipated Returns
The Walking Dead: Dead City S2 (May 4, AMC+): The Maggie and Negan saga continues in post-apocalyptic New York. Season 2 promises even more tension as the two find themselves on opposing sides in a city that’s as dangerous as ever. If you loved the original Walking Dead, this spin-off is a gritty, high-stakes ride that keeps the franchise alive and kicking.
Poker Face S2 (May 8, Peacock): Natasha Lyonne returns as Charlie, the human lie detector, in this quirky crime-of-the-week series. This season, Charlie hits the road in her Barracuda, encountering new oddball characters and crimes in every episode. It’s a perfect blend of mystery and offbeat humour that’s easy to binge after a long day.
Nine Perfect Strangers S2 (May 21, Hulu/Disney+ in Canada): Nicole Kidman is back as the enigmatic wellness guru Masha, this time relocating her retreat to the snowy Austrian Alps. The new season introduces a fresh cast of troubled guests, promising more psychological twists and darkly comedic moments. If you liked The White Lotus, this is a must-watch.
Something New
The Four Seasons S1 (May 1, Netflix): Tina Fey and Steve Carell headline this eight-episode comedy inspired by the 1981 film. The show follows three married couples as they navigate love, friendship, and chaos through spring, summer, fall, and winter. With its all-star cast and Fey’s signature wit, it’s set to be one of the most charming new comedies of the year.
Sirens S1 (May 22, Netflix): Julianne Moore leads this dark comedy limited series about a woman searching for her missing sister, only to uncover the secrets of a wealthy, eccentric family. Created by Molly Smith Metzler (Maid), Sirens promises a blend of mystery, drama, and biting humour, plus a supporting cast that includes Kevin Bacon and Milly Alcock.
Murderbot S1 (May 16, Apple TV+): Based on Martha Wells’ beloved sci-fi novels, this series stars Alexander Skarsgård as the voice of a rogue security robot with a love for soap operas and a distaste for human stupidity. Expect a mix of action, humour, and existential musings. Think Blade Runner meets Black Mirror, but funnier. I’m really curious if this one hits.
Overcompensating S1 (May 15, Prime Video): This college-set comedy is already generating buzz for its sharp writing and relatable characters. If you’re looking for something light and timely, Overcompensating is worth adding to your watchlist.

There’s something for everyone this May, whether you’re into dark comedies, sci-fi adventures, or reality TV. Personally, I’m most excited for Murderbot and The Four Seasons-perfect for decompressing after a busy day of work, parenting, or grilling. What are you looking forward to most? And yes, I still haven’t watched Severence yet. Some things never change.
