Our boys love screens. Our boys love superheroes. Our boys love silly. So, with that said, the movie Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie checks all the boxes in our house. Have you seen it? For those who missed it in theatres, it is now out on DVD and Blu-Ray as well as digitally on itunes.

For a classic family film, this one is great to sit and watch with the kids. It has laughs and a few catch phrases that will stick for a while.
For those not familiar with Underpants, it is based on the bestselling book series by Dav Pilkey. The outrageous comedy tells the story of two overly imaginative best friends. Yes, now you can see why our boys are fans. They are like the two main characters, just brothers.

Ramp Up Back to School Reading with a Kindle Paperwhite & FreeTime App

kindle paperwhite

How is back to school going for everyone? For us, it has been smooth sailing. In year’s past, the start of school was always tough on our oldest, because it meant getting back into reading.

But this year, our oldest son has not missed a beat with his reading as he practices a lot. Over the summer he really got into reading what he calls chapter books. These are stories he actually follows chapter by chapter and not the quick reads we have done in the past.

To help his interest, we were lucky enough to try out a Kindle Paperwhite and the FreeTime feature it has. While our son’s interest for holding a book and reading was good, holding a screen really blows up the interest level.

Like all Kindle devices, it’s easy on the eyes and meant for reading, not playing games or surfing the net.

Then add in the FreeTime app and this device is a major hit.

Own The Mornings One #Spoondrop At A Time

Mornings can be tough for everyone. But when you add kids to the mix, things get really hairy. Going from slamming the snooze to getting out the door on time can rival the hardest challenges you see on Survivor. You don’t just have to worry about yourself, you have to manage a perfectly executed assault for multiple people.

If you don’t? Breakfast is not eaten, teeth are left dirty and permission sheets are once again forgotten. Let’s not even talk about having the brain power to think about what is for dinner in 9 hours. It’s controlled madness in our house. Little talking, lots of doing.

We have it down to a science for the most part, but has always the one variable that can throw it all out of whack are the kids.

All Dads & Grads Need A JumPack When On The Road

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cobra for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have a confession to make. I am not a car guy. I have never been that interested in cars other than driving them from point A to point B. There I said it.

I have never changed a tire or tricked out my ride in any way. When something breaks, I call someone to fix it. I did change a few light bulbs before, but that’s it.

That is why when I am driving, or my wife is out with the car, I always have a the tiniest worry of something going wrong and being stuck somewhere.

Stuck without a phone, without power or without the tools needed to get the car going again. I am the guy who chooses not to have jumper cables in the car because then one day it would be proven I don’t know to use them.

But in the age of modern technology it seems silly to have such worry.

Kodak Moments App Makes It Easier To Print Photos

I have been taking digital photos for well over 10 years and I don’t think I have deleted any of them. I have USB sticks, external drives, CD-ROMS, several clouds and memory cards on the go, all full of photos.

Photos of my life. Food, pets, kids, moments, silly things and everything in between. I don’t look at them, I store them so I have them one day. But does that day ever come? Jim Gaffigan does a bit in his standup about this and he is spot on. We are digital photo hoarders.

30 years ago, a photo was precious because it was actually work to take it. You only had so much film and the cost that went with it. So you wanted every photo to be amazing.

With the age of digital, one thing that many of us have left behind is actually displaying photos for people to actually seen. Not on a computer, a phone or even one of those silly digital picture frames. No, I mean printing it out, putting it in a frame and displaying it so that memory is part of your day.

I have thousands and thousands of photos that I would call good. But if you look around my house, you don’t see any. That’s just not fair to my talents for capturing the moment.

It’s time I get back into printing photos and being creative in how they are displayed out in the open.

It’s time to showcase an amazing photo how they did 50 years ago.
