So long to the NBA champion Toronto Raptors

Despite my wife saying it’s been in a the news for weeks and weeks, it seems the trading of Pascal Siakim is finally here. It could be today or this week is my feeling.

When it actually does happen, that will be the end of the 2019 title team. All the players will be gone. The coach is gone. I guess the only pieces left are the executive team that built it all. Oh and We The North.

It’s hard to believe that in less than 5 years, it will all be gone and to be honest, the team has declined quite a bit since.

Now, things have looked a little better as of late with the trade for IQ and RJ, but still, look at what the team was in 2019. It was a perfect team. I think it gets overlooked at just how complete a team it was.

Better Call Saul never won an Emmy

Did you watch the Emmy’s last night? Probably not. We did. It wasn’t a bad show. There were some funny moments, a lot of TV nostalgia and zero surprises on who won in the end. Some of the categories seemed so telegraphed on who they wanted to win.

I read this morning that it was a confusing show because it was 4 months later than normal due to various strikes, and the submission window went all the way back to the summer of 2022.

Black Bird and Obi Wan were nominated.

The other part I don’t get about the Emmy’s is how a show gets nominated. Because based on last night, there were only like 9 shows on TV over the last year and a half.

Why did Apple add a new Journal app to my phone?

So last night my iPhone updated. No big deal right. Usually it’s about a securty patch and there is nothing really different after the fact.

But this morning I noticed a new app on my phone that I did not download. It’s called Journal.

I did not continue that far, but it looks like it’s a place to write about your day and add photos.

Really? In 2024, the big update to our phone is an app to help you journal? Are there not enough places to share about yourself, document your life and just write your thoughts? Really Apple?

Toronto has large squirrels

Where I sit each day at my computer, overlooks our backyard. I can see trains, the newly built condo behind us, a lot of trees and finally – squirrels. So many squirrels. Our backyard is like the Dundas Square (soon to be renamed) of squirrels.

But what I find myself noticing more and more, is not the amount of squirrels, but the size of these damn beasts.

The night Darko became the Raptors coach (for real)

It has been an up and down season for the Toronto Raptors. Expectations were kind of high for this team, at least in terms of creating an upbeat culture again and some positive vibes.

The key to it all was the new coach that was hired before the season – Darko Rajaković.

To say it’s been a bumpy ride so far, would be an understatement. The good vibes have been certainly there and you can’t deny Darko is an upbeat and positive guy. He was dubbed early as a Serbian Ted Lasso.

The pure joy of seeing your team win for the first time

For me it was April 3, 1989. It was a Monday night, I was allowed to stay up and watch my Michigan Wolverines take on the Seton Hall Pirates in the Men’s college basketball National Championship.

The Wolverines won in an OT thriller that I still remember quite vividly as I watched in the Corunna basement (which tells you, it was a long time ago).

Glen Rice, Rumeal Robinson, Terry Mills and ol’ Coach Fisher got it done it what was a Cinderalla run (even though they were a very good team). You always remember the first time you see YOUR team win the title.

Finally some snow in Toronto

For those who were wanting a white Christmas, it finally came in Toronto, many days after the holiday. That’s fine by me. Snow isn’t as fun as it used to be. My only real want for the white powder is that it means the seasons are still what they are supposed to be. It means the world is doing what it’s supposed to. No snow kind of says that the climate is truly changing.

Ottawa for example has had one of the mildest winters so far and it’s an ongoing story if the Rideau Canal will freeze enough this year for skating.
