Clipping Finger And Toe Nails Is Like Being In The Hurt Locker

Do you take care of the nail clipping in your house? Yes, I do my own of course but I also do the 3-year old’s, the 3-month old’s, the dog’s and even my wife’s toes when she was prego.

As you can see I have experience with clipping.

So why do I always feel like I am one of those guys in the Hurt Locker going to check out a bomb?

Well, because if you screw up with your delicate piece of work, all hell will break loose and someone’s anger will explode.

How many of you have cut that first baby nail too short and caused a leakage of blood that you thought would never end?

I have done it twice, one on each kid. I don’t count the dog, because his nails are dark black and it is impossible to keep a perfect record there.

Cooking Like A Dad – Pulled Pork On The Big Green Egg

On New Year’s Day, I decided to kick off 2013 with a tasty pulled pork dinner. That meant one thing – The Big Green Egg was waking up from a winter’s sleep.

Since Jan. 1 is usually a pretty lazy day, it seemed perfect to be smoking some meat low and slow. The final result was tasty pulled pork and lots of leftovers.

Looking Back At 2012 Like A Dad

The last day of 2012 is here. Time to reflect, look ahead and most importantly, have everything you need from the grocery store (been out once so far).

Happy New Year to all of our readers whether you are a dad, mom, brother, grandfather, Internet addict or even if you are just lost.

This blog was in the design stage for most of the year. No name was thought of until late but the concept was there. To share dad stories, entertain and just be part of the parenting community.

It has only been a month but there have already been some great connections and several other dads who said they would like to join the party in 2013. Great news.

That is the future. Before getting to that, I, the creator of this slice of the net, want to look back at the moments of 2012 that changed the way we lived our lives (in reference to our two boys).

So many to share so I hope my wife forgives me if I leave a few out.

Here we go. Looking back and 2012……like a dad.

Winning Christmas Like A Dad

This is the first post since we celebrated Christmas and it took a few days to build up the energy to do so.

Gifts have been played with, garbage has come and gone and the fridge is full of leftovers and booze. Sounds about right.

This year was also the first Christmas with the two boys.

Harrison (3) is at the perfect age to truly love Christmas and he did so with gusto this year. Giving and receiving gifts, the kid was on fire and hardly slept or ate.

He is back at preschool today which is part of the reason I have time to post.

Seeing that true, unadulterated love of Christmas in a kid’s eyes is what did it for me this year. He was speechless with excitement at certain points.

He listened for Santa, remembered who got him what and did not have one meltdown or misbehaving moment. Blessed.

Our Son Is A Christmas Double Agent

Ah the secrets. The secrets get pretty heavy at Christmas, especially for the kids who end up going shopping with mom or dad.

Today, both my wife and myself grabbed our 3-year old and took him out to shop for the other parent. Both times he came home saying, mom/dad said not to say where we went or what was bought and it was a secret.

My son the double agent. He knows too much.

The mean thing to do would be to interrogate him. He would fold in 30 seconds. But that is no fun. I did not ask, I did not bring it up, nor will I.

Same goes for my wife. At least the boy keeps secrets now. Before when we have tried this, he would run in the door yelling just what I had told him not to say.

So there is progression. He is learning the tricks. It was so much easier when he was a baby and you could tell him anything and he was the ultimate vault.

Blogging Like A Dad – Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2012

As an experienced and somewhat successful blogger, taking on the daddy genre was  next on the list of challenges. I have figured out what it takes to grow and explode a blog and in the last three years, I had gotten dad experience first hand with my two boys. So it only seemed natural to mix the two.

Time was the challenge. I was always saying, when I have time, when things slow down etc. But as any working parent knows, things NEVER slow down.

So I just did it. Started up the new blog from scratch and have been adding content for a month.

Recently Babble.com put out their annual list of Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2012 and I was very excited to go through each and every one to first, read about other great dads and their thoughts and secondly, size up the competition.

I have to say, way more impressive than I first thought. I knew the Mom blog world was full and just assumed dads would be too busy to blog. Silly me. The list only touches on 50 and I can think of several not even on there that I read almost daily.

I salute all the dad bloggers on this list and all the ones so close. What does this list do for me personally? Well it gives me motivation to work hard, pour my dad thoughts out and entertain all of you. Then maybe I will join the ranks of these dad blogs.
