Thank You: Reflecting on 12 Years of Blogging

As I sit down to write this post, I am filled with gratitude and reflection. It’s hard to believe that it has been 12 years since I started Like a Dad. What began as a simple journal during my parental leave has blossomed into something much more meaningful. Over the years, this blog has evolved into a space where I share my thoughts on fatherhood, BBQ, sports, and life’s everyday moments. Today, I want to take a moment to say thank you—to each and every one of you who has taken the time to read, comment, and engage with my blogging adventures.

Why I Started This Blog

The journey of Like a Dad began when I took parental leave with my second son. At the time, I wanted to document those precious moments—both the joys and the challenges—of being a dad at home. What started as a personal journal quickly became a place where I could express my thoughts on fatherhood from a dad’s perspective.

There were so many stories to tell, from sleepless nights to the thrill of watching my boys grow up. I realized early on that there weren’t many spaces where dads could openly share their parenting experiences. Most parenting blogs seemed to focus on mothers, which is great, but I felt there was room for more voices from dads who are equally involved in raising their kids. That’s when I decided to turn my daily journal into something more public—a blog where other dads (and moms) could find relatable stories, tips, and even some BBQ recipes.

The Evolution of Like a Dad

Over the years, this blog has grown beyond just parenting stories. It’s become a space where I can share my passion for BBQ (especially using my Big Green Egg), talk about sports, and even reflect on how video games like Assassin’s Creed help me unwind after long days. The blog has allowed me to combine all these aspects of my life—fatherhood, hobbies, and personal growth—into one cohesive narrative.

But none of this would have been possible without you—the readers who have supported me along the way. Whether you’ve been following since the early days or just recently stumbled upon one of my posts, your engagement has meant the world to me. Every comment, every like, every shared post—it all reminds me why I continue writing.

Thank You for Being Part of This Journey

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you—for reading Like a Dad, for sharing your thoughts in the comments section, and for being part of this community. Blogging can sometimes feel like shouting into the void, but knowing that there are people out there who resonate with what I write makes it all worthwhile. There have been times when life got busy—between balancing my career as a marketing director and being a dad—and it was hard to find time to write.

But every time I received a message from one of you telling me how much you enjoyed a post or how it helped you in some way, it reignited my passion for blogging. You’ve allowed me to share not just the highs but also the lows—the messy parts of parenting that we don’t always talk about. And through it all, your support has been unwavering.

What’s Next?

As Like a Dad enters its 13th year, I’m excited about what lies ahead. In recent months I have gotten back into the writing mode and it’s cool to see the traffic coming back. Oddly enough, it’s for BBQ and not parenting. Oh well. I will take what I can get. There are still so many stories left to tell—about fatherhood, BBQ experiments gone right (and wrong), sports moments that matter, and even more reflections on life as both a parent and professional.

I’m also looking forward to engaging more with all of you. Whether it’s through comments on blog posts or social media interactions, building this community is something that continues to inspire me every day.

Final Thoughts: Gratitude Beyond Words

To everyone who has read even one post on Like a Dad, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support means more than words can express. This blog wouldn’t exist without readers like you who take the time out of your busy lives to engage with what I write. As we move forward together into another year of blogging adventures, know that your presence here is appreciated more than you’ll ever know.

Here’s to many more years of sharing stories, learning from each other, and celebrating all the little moments that make life as a dad so special. Thank you again for being part of this journey—it wouldn’t be the same without you!
