Quick takes on NBA Finals

In what seems like a several week break, the 2023-24 NBA Finals will finally start tomorrow night in Boston. It’s the underdog Dallas Mavericks against the hated Boston Celtics (at least in my opinion).

So what’s going to happen? Who’s going to win? Who will be proclaimed the best basketball player in the world? What team should blow it up cause they came second? So many subplots and talking points.

Before the action tips off, I just wanted to get my takes in so if any of them actually happen, I can seem like an expert. That’s how it’s done right?

But before I move forward, let’s review my takes from the previous round.

  • I honestly don’t know who I am cheering for. This was not the final four I was hoping for. I wanted Denver and OKC. I ended up cheering for Dallas and Indiana.
  • I can’t stand ESPN/ABC’s coverage of NBA. This has not changed.
  • TNT apparently is going to have Draymond Green on the desk for every game. A real mistake if you ask me. He’s a hater with a hot mic. It was even worse that expected. The only saving grace was he wasn’t there for Game 5.
  • I wonder if ESPN will talk about the games or focus more on Bronny James? Well there was a lot of Bronny still.
  • I still look at Gobert’s face and think of the pandemic. This did not change at all.
  • As for the series, my brain says Boston and Minnesota. But my heart wants anyone but Boston. Damn it!
  • In terms of pure enjoyment, I think the Dallas-Minny series is going to be fun. I can see ANT and Luka really going at each other verbally. It would be nice to listen to them being mic’d for an entire game. This turned out to be more Luka and less ANT.
  • I can’t believe Boston is getting away with relying some much on Al Horford. Still can’t believe it.
  • Final predictions – Boston in 6. Minnesota in 7. Actual, Boston in 4, Dallas in 5

Okay, back to looking at the NBA Finals where the Mavericks and Celtics should provide an all-timer series in terms of entertainment and storylines.

  • I can’t wait to see Luka vs. the Boston crowd. The hatred, the theatre, the potential.
  • Oh and then you have Kyrie vs. the Boston crowd.
  • I have more faith in Brown having a better impact than Tatum. But Tatum will score more.
  • Luka will score 40 points at least once.
  • Porzingis will get hurt again.
  • Big Perk will be beside himself at how frustrated the Celtics make him.
  • Lively II will be the X-factor in the entire series.
  • The most important player for Boston will be Holiday.
  • Jason Kidd gets a fine for calling out refs in Game 1.
  • Joe Mazzulla breaks down the plot of The Town after Game 2.
  • Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are shown courtside way too much.
  • SAS somehow makes the series about him.
  • Tatum and Brown / Luke and Kyrie cancel each other out.
  • Series comes down to White and Holiday – if they can score AND keep Luka/Kyrie under 60 combined, they will win.
  • Dallas will have so many lobs.
  • I hate the Celtics, but if I am picking with my brain, I think they should win in 6 games.
  • Final prediction. Boston in 6.
