5 Positive Takeaways From Online School

5 positive takeaways from online school

“I don’t like online school, when is it over?” ~ Unnamed children in my household.

Does that sound familiar? The COVID-19 pandemic continues to play with our kid’s education like a yo-yo spinning up and down between in-person and online school. Everyone in our house was done. We were ready to return to the real life classroom, hopefully for good.

Recently Netflix launched these new shorts to help parents fight the epidemic of kids trying to prolong bedtime. The whole concept is #5MoreMinutes, so they made 5 minute long TV shows featuring the Dinotrux.

That got me thinking of all the crazy and outlandish excuses our boys use to try to get out of bed time and extend their day just a little longer. Thanks to these Netflix shorts, when we say, just one more show, we now know it won’t cut into our heavenly parenting time where we pass out on the couch or sit in complete and spectacular silence.

Here are just some of the excuses we have heard in our house when it’s time for bed.

How Do I Make the Most of My Paternity Leave?

Excellent post by Michael Roston from the New York Times on his upcoming parental leave.

It was called How do I make the most of my paternity leave?

Late last year, The New York Times Company announced that it would offer six weeks of paid parental leave for all employees. The timing couldn’t have been better for me, because late last year I became a father. I worked out some scheduling with my managers, and my wife, and in one week’s time I’ll start paternity leave with our 4-month-old daughter as my wife returns to work from her maternity leave.

On Sunday, my wife and I had a conversation about things that I should understand about being home with our daughter full time. After we discussed various particulars, she asked if there was anything else I wanted to know. There was. “Do you have any general advice on staying sane?”

Later in the post he asked these 3 questions.

10 Of The Best Playgrounds Halifax Has To Offer

When you have children of any age, one important list you need in your head is where the best local playgrounds are. Playgrounds are a staple for any parent because they give you a chance to get outside and of course, tire out your kids.

We live in Clayton Park in Halifax. There are numerous little playgrounds within walking distance to our house. They are ideal because they are usually empty which gives our boys free run of the place.

But a few swings and a slide just don’t cut it all the time.

So, when we have access to the car, we do our best to venture out into the city to go to some of the biggest and best playgrounds in Halifax and surrounding areas. We also like to go on adventures and find new playgrounds to enjoy.

Of course, having a parenting blog that focuses on Halifax, I decided it was time to start unloading the big list in my head and share it with the other parents who may not know about such wonderful places to play.

Before I list of these playgrounds, I want to add, that these are our 10 favourites. So if I leave one off the list, that is only because we have either not been there yet, or our kids did not like it when we went.

This is also a chance for those living in HRM to help compile a master list in the comments. The goal here is to make the best resource possible for parents to access when looking for a playground.

So here goes.
