Own The Mornings One #Spoondrop At A Time

Mornings can be tough for everyone. But when you add kids to the mix, things get really hairy. Going from slamming the snooze to getting out the door on time can rival the hardest challenges you see on Survivor. You don’t just have to worry about yourself, you have to manage a perfectly executed assault for multiple people.

If you don’t? Breakfast is not eaten, teeth are left dirty and permission sheets are once again forgotten. Let’s not even talk about having the brain power to think about what is for dinner in 9 hours. It’s controlled madness in our house. Little talking, lots of doing.

We have it down to a science for the most part, but has always the one variable that can throw it all out of whack are the kids.

Video: Honey Bunches of Oats “Smile While You Shake It” Contest

In our house, cereal is king. Our boys love to start the day with a healthy breakfast and more times than not, it is cereal.

So it is cool that Honey Bunches of Oats recently launched a new brand anthem “Smile While You Shake It,” to celebrate what it means to start the day off with a smile.

The fun and upbeat song, inspired by Samba beats, incorporates the cereal box and breakfast utensils as percussion instruments. I have to say, it is pretty up beat for the morning time but hey, you don’t want to be boring.

The song I am sure is fun for families and it will inspire them to make it their own videos. In fact, to encourage fans to join the movement, Honey Bunches of Oats is giving away $500 each week, now until June. Yep, $500 in gift card form, not cash.

Cereal Saves The Day

Just had a loud and a little frustrating dinner. Luckily, cereal saved the day.

Our 3-year old was having a tired, hungry, not listening, crying tantrum just as dinner was served. The classic, “I don’t want that” and “I want something else.”

After a lot of crying, talking and trying to discuss what the options were.

The thing that did it and seemed to turn the tide (for now) was the offer of cereal for dinner.

Now usually we try to stick to everyone eating the same thing but tonight was a special case. It was like trying to defuse a bomb with garden hose. It was not going to work.

Just to bring you up to speed, dinner was a tasty pasta dish with broccoli and a side salad. Pasta is usually a hit. Anyways, not tonight.

So we offered bread, fruit and a few other things that I can’t even remember.
