Getting Canadian With the Kids And Netflix

Canada Day seems like months ago. The day we all celebrate the great country we live in. As our boys get older, they become more aware of all things Canadian. Maple syrup, the maple leaf and the national anthem. It’s pretty cool to see them learn about where they live.

Also, Canada turned 149 years old. A fact that Charlie was very proud to know. He also likes to ask if I am older than Canada? Thanks. They also like to point out that I am older than the CN Tower. Again, thanks guys.

So how did we celebrate July 1, 2016? Well, we did it the only way we know how. With family and with the Toronto Blue Jays.

During the day we kept it quiet as Charlie woke up with a mega fever. He has this heater of a fever like once a year where he turns into a little radiator. Hot, grumpy and tired. To be fair, he tried his best. He played outside. He rode his bike and he had some food. But then it went downhill.

What helped him out? Netflix of course. Now the boys are hooked on Pokemon, but they have enjoyed a lot of Canadian content in the past. Charlie was in no mood to be patriotic. He just wanted his comfort shows.

In the past the boys have enjoyed such shows as The Magic School Bus, Super Why and Caillou. Yes, they all have Canadian ties.

Once the Netflix was off and lunch was done I started my own Canadian content on the TV. A little thing called the Jays game that on that day went 19 innings. We started watching it at home and ended watching it at the in-laws. Dinner was eaten before it was over.

Oh right dinner. We had an awesome dinner that included fried chicken, baked beans and lemon meringue pie.

Charlie was done. He sat in the chair looking very tired. He was sick. Luckily, Netflix to the rescue again. It’s so handy being able to have profiles set up for each person so no matter where you go, you can get to your favourite shows quick.

Again, no Canadian content. But Charlie was wearing a Canada shirt.

Charlie was eventually diagnosed with strep throat, so it was a rough Canada Day for our little dude. But like I said, Netflix to the rescue.
