As the year closes, I have been pulled in by my computer to put a stamp on 2016, in my own words. If you simply live your life through your social feed, it has been a shitty one. So many celebs we grew up with passing away, the whole Trump thing and an endless supply of other WTF moments. While I agree the last 365 days have been overall bad, I do want to focus on all the good, especially when it comes to my personal life.
Remember, life is how you look at it, so I suggest stop dwelling in the negative and celebrate the good times a lot more.
If there was ever a time that we needed to send a positive message to the young women of the world, it seems now is an ideal time. We all know what happened on Nov. 8. It happened. Instead of having the first female president, well, you know what we have.
While trying to digest, comprehend and figuring out what is next, maybe it’s time to turn off the Twitter, stop reading articles on how we should feel and just enjoy a few Netflix shows that showcase women who don’t’ let the dark days get them down.
Yes, put on some cozy clothes, get comfy on the couch and take a break from what’s going on in the world.
Netflix hosts a wide variety of series that capture the vibrancy of modern womanhood, whether it’s the solidarity expressed by the diverse inmates on Orange Is the New Black, the inspired efforts of a tenacious young Queen in The Crown, the emotional and physical strength of Jessica Jones or the outspoken, unfiltered wit of Chelsea Handler as she relates to women across multiple generations. These characters represent diverse and complex backgrounds that reflect the idea of “empowerment” in numerous ways.
In honour of the newest leading female character on Netflix, Queen Elizabeth II, a few leading women of Netflix originals have drafted notes to their younger selves – and everyone everywhere – highlighting some of the universal truths, challenges and wisdom that transcend place and time, that modern women everywhere can relate to.
As the candy bags start to dwindle in size, I am finally getting around to my Halloween post for October. Yes I have been a bad #streamteam member but for this blog entry it actually works in my favour to be running behind. Now that it is a week after Halloween, I have seen all the best costumes and enjoyed all the effort some mega Netflix watchers went to.
Every time I checked Facebook or Instagram, there was a new frontrunner for costume that rocked and cleary came from the mind of a Netflix binge artist.
As my kids did not use Netflix as their inspiration this year I had to go to the Internet. In case you are wondering, they were a Gorilla and Kevin Pillar of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Looking for a new series to get your binge on with? Why not go royal with the latest Netflix original to hit the small screen. The Crown.
My wife and I recently got to attend an exclusive screening of the first two episodes and I have to say, it pulled me in. I can’t wait to watch the other 8 episodes. I also read there are 6 seasons planned. That’s a lot of Queen.
For those who don’t know, The Crown, details the life of Queen Elizabeth starting just before she becomes the Queen. The budget is big, the cast is amazing and it’s a show I can see doing very well with viewers and awards.
It was also cool to hear a few of the characters answer questions at the event in Toronto.
